Website Evaluation

Site: https://www.nationalgeographic.com/

Authored By: National Geographic Partners, LLC.

Who is the intended audience?:

The intended audience for this website spans from a variety of demographics. But in short, the website is specifically for nature-lovers, history junkies, photographers, and world travelers of all ages, and experience levels respectively.

What kind of information is the author presenting?:

The author is presenting information mainly about what they do as an organization (their mission statement), and what you as a supporter/follower can do to help their cause. They also provide ways to subscribe, follow, participate in, or learn about their various mediums through which they present a lot of their information, including magazines, television, online articles, museums, photography and many other areas of media.

Is the platform design well suited for the chosen materials and audience? That is, is it easy for the user to navigate, search, and find answers? How so, how not so? How can you improve it?

The website is well designed in some areas, but could use some minor adjustments in others. They listed the information on the main page in order of relevance. And after providing information or attention-grabbing graphics about the topic, they provide links to more in depth pages on the subjects. But when you think about it, since this website and organization has such a wide age range, perhaps providing information online may not be the most effective tool for speaking to the older portion of their target market. However, considering the majority of the target market are avid users of the internet, it’s still the most effective means of information presentation. In terms of navigation, the only small adjustment I would make would to the architecture of the website would be to make the “Menu” tab on the top of the page larger, and more central on the top. That tab is actually the easiest way to navigate the website, so it should be more of a focal point.
